Update from the rock

Over the past couple of weeks my brush has been busy mainly on this Dark Angels commission of Azrael being painted over several streams on Twitch. There’s just something magical about painting a marine with a classic back banner which really fills out a classic silhouette and gives a nice touch of nostalgia. Updated sculpted details, proportions and all the benefits of the modern GW miniature; paired up with some classic elements and even keeping the flow/gesture of the original pose. For those who would like to copy the dark green armour use for their own miniatures, listed is a simple recipe to follow that you can apply to yours.

Dark Marine Green (Ionic)

Burnt Umber (scale 75 Artist)

Light olive green (ionic)

Golden Yellow (Ionic)

Dark Marine Green mixed with Burnt Umber + Black to create your shadows. Then it’s Dark Marine and progressively mixing in Light Olive Green to build your Light Volume. Mix in a fine touch of Golden Yellow along with White for the final highlight and specular highlight to gently make the light warmer :) Optional bonus: Mix Violet and Mahogony Inks to mark out your Occlusion Shadows (darkest shadows) for a little extra deep punch. Most noticeable in hand.

Not to leave out you Patreons for a tutorial, I’ll be painting the Watcher in the Dark to show how I paint the robes which is a deviation of the more traditional bone coloured robes. For more Dark Angels painting tutorials, there is a whole host of them available to my Patreon Supporters. (The Lion, Jump Pack Captain, Deathwing Captain, Dreadnought).

Hope you all enjoy the rest of the weekend and of course Happy Painting ☺️✌️❤️🎨🙏
